CHOQUEQUIRAO
INCA REFUGE

It is Assumed that Choquequirao was a religious and
cultural center of the Incas, as well as important
administrative centre on the pass to the old Vilcabamba
, Machu Picchu and Capital Cusco.
From 1535, choquequirao was used as shelter when Cusco
was besieged by the conquerors, from this sector to
Vilcabamba was occurred the Inca resistance; since the
King Manco Inca 1536, King Sayri Tupac in 1545, King
Titu Cusi 1558, until the capture and Murdering of King
Tupac Amaru I in 1572.
Early inform comes from Spanish Juan Arias Diaz, whom in
1710 writes about a abandoned city Chuqiquirao. Other
intrepid explorers are on the list but in 1909 Hirang
Bingan and topographer Clarence Hay, performed a
detailed description of the city.
The first Official excavation occurred after 1970, since
1986 to the present. Was cleared only 45 % of the 1800
acres.
Choquequirao is the second
most important ancient city of Southern Perú which
access is restricted only for adventurers who like to
trek up steep trails . The Only access is by dirt road
to Cachora
and horses or mules on the path. We don't know
any one who renounced to this magnificent road with
spectacular views and very well set campsites under
typical climates, mostly hot and warm.
The city of Choquequirao Whose name means Golden Cradle
is also known as Machu Picchu`s sister because
architectural features that holds.
